DIY PIERCED PAPER PROJECTS

1) SCRAPBOOK PAPER SACHET
 2) CANDY BAR WRAP
3) WINE GLASS SHADE
4) HOMEMADE LIP GLOSS

Those lovely scented paper sachets at the stores
always find a place in my shopping basket.
They are wonderful additions to closets, drawers, and cars.

Their scent never seems to last very long,
so I decided to make my own.

I used scrapbook paper to create unique,
homemade gifts for a women's retreat,
and also for birthday gifts.

Sachet

A sachet (/ˈsæʃ/ SA-shay; from the French sachet, meaning little bag) or packet is a small disposable bag or pouch,
  •  Scrapbook Paper
  • Envelope Template  (See template below or just open an envelope that you have, and trace it for your pattern.)
    • Corn-on-the cob Holders (I used these to prick scrapbook paper and add designs.)
    • Cutting Board (I put the cutting board under the scrapbook paper as I pierce the paper with the corn holders.)
    • Scissors
    • String or Ribbon (Your Choice)
    • Charms or Buttons
    • Dried Flowers (I used lavender from my garden.)
    • Fill Sachet With:  Vermiculite + Essential Oil and Potpourri (Add essential oil to vermiculite and mix with potpourri.  Vermiculite acts as a fixative to hold the scent of the oil.  Vermiculite is available where garden supplies are sold.)

HOMEMADE VAPORIZING BATH/SHOWER PUCKS

HOMEMADE VAPORIZING BATH/SHOWER PUCKS

Link:
 http://tellmeastory-marcia.blogspot.com/2017/01/homemade-vaporizing-bathshower-pucks.html

My friend, Tammy, posted a photo and recipe on her facebook page for "DIY Vicks Shower Pucks."

I'm not sure where the recipe originated, but it looked interesting.

It's the cold season, and these vaporizing pucks should help us feel less stuffy when added to the bath or shower.

They are NOT edible!!!

I attempted to make them.

Here's what they are supposed to look like.

DIY Vicks Shower Pucks (Facebook Photo)

Gather Supplies:

  • Muffin Pan
  • Paper Cupcake Liners (10-12)
  • Measuring Cup
  • Vicks or Any Brand Vaporizing Medicated Ointment
  • Pan (For Stove top)
  • Baking Soda (1 Cup)
  • Cornstarch  (1/2 Cup)
  • Water (1/3 to 1/2 Cup)
  • Spoon

Copyright 2014 Marcia Norwood

 Directions:

1.  Gather Supplies.

2.  Line Muffin Tin with Paper Cup Liners.

3.  Add 1 Cup Baking Soda and 1/2 Cup Corn Starch into Measuring Cup.  Mix together and Set Aside.

4.  Add 1/3 to 1/2 Cup Water in pan on stove. (Add just enough water to melt the Vicks ointment.)

5.  Add 2 - 3 Teaspoons Vicks or any brand Vaporizing Ointment to the water, and cook until the ointment melts.

(I made the mistake of sniffing the mixture, and put my nose way too close to the water as it came to a rolling boil.  It definitely cleared my sinuses.)

6.  Add Baking Soda and Corn Starch Mixture into water with melted ointment, and MIX into a thick paste.  ONLY add a little more water if needed.

(I panicked when the paste looked too thick and added way too much water.)

7.   Fill each paper-lined Muffin Cup about half-way with mixture.

(This was really messy, and I got stuff everywhere outside the paper cups: on the counter, the floor, my shirt, and my pants.  A friend who attempted to make this dumped the entire mixture on his pants.  He said he will just put his pants in the shower for the same vaporizing effect.)

8.  Let dry OVERNIGHT.

(My mixture made 10 discs/pucks.  There might have been more if I hadn't spilled so much.)

DIY Vicks Shower Pucks (Facebook Photo)
9.  Remove from paper cups when discs/pucks are hard.  (Mine never got as hard as the ones in the original posted photo.)

10.  Store in an Airtight Container.

11.  Put discs/pucks in the bottom of your bath or shower (under the running water),and let them melt away in the hot water.

12.  Remember:  They are NOT edible.   Keep away from children or adults who eat things before they know what it is!

My Messy Discs/Pucks.  Copyright 2014 Marcia Norwood

My homemade Vaporizing Bath/Shower Pucks don't look much like the original photo - because I added too much water.

We tried them out in the shower and the bath.

My daughter, Faith, added one to the bottom of the shower, but didn't put it under the water.  It only melted a little bit.

I held a puck under the running water in my bath, and it melted easily.  It gave a wonderful Eucalyptus and Menthol fragrance to the bath.

I will definitely make more of these, with the HOPE that the next batch will look better.

They are worth the mess!

I'm getting off now to take a luxurious hot bath.  I'll add one Vaporizing Puck plus my Homemade Bath Salts to the water!

(Check out other homemade projects on my blog using the SEARCH box at the top right hand of the blog.)

FOR THE BIRDS
DIY (Do It Yourself) PROJECT

Copyright 2014 Marcia Norwood
We were in the midst of a blizzard
in 2014, in the heart of America.
Snow continued to fall throughout the day.
The weather reports predicted
eight to ten inches of snowfall by the evening.
My DIY (Do It Yourself) project
did NOT turn out exactly as expected...
but the birds don't seem to mind.

Copyright 2014 Marcia NorwoodCLICK on each photo to enlarge.

First...before the snow fell,
I filled the bird feeders in our yard
with cranberries and bird seed.

Here's a special project for the birds!

This looked like an easy project:
Cranberry Ice Globes!

Gather Supplies:

Round Balloons
Birdseed
Orange Peel
Dried Cranberries
(or Other Dried Fruit)
Greenery
Funnel
Water
Freezer

 Directions:
  1. Drop the birdseed, orange peel, dried fruit and greenery into the empty balloon. (Use a funnel if necessary.)
  2. Fill the balloon with water, and tie a knot at the top.
  3. Place in the freezer, turning the balloon every 20 minutes until frozen.
  4. Remove from freezer, and peel off balloon.
  5. Set outside in cold weather for the birds.

"Christmas 2013" by Jo Ann & Vickie.  www.gooseberrypatch.com

Instruction # 1...easy peasy.
Drop the birdseed, orange peel, dried fruit and
greenery into the empty balloon.

 (Use a funnel if necessary.)

#2 - Fill the balloon with water, and tie a knot at the top.
This is where it all went wrong.
I filled the balloon with water,
but it didn't get any bigger -
SO -I blew in the balloon....
which caused everything inside to overflow...
inside my mouth.
Icky!

I gave up following the instructions after two more tries
resulted in  two more mouthfuls of birdseed and greenery.
I must admit that I was NOT looking forward to
Instruction #3:
Place in the freezer,
turning the balloon every 20 minutes until frozen.
What's a girl to do?

My silicone muffin pans came to the rescue!

Copyright 2014 Marcia Norwood

I filled the muffin pans with birdseed, cranberries and greenery,
(we didn't have any oranges), and left some greenery
(Boxwood & Arborvitae) sticking out,
and finally poured in the water.

Then:  the muffin pans went in the freezer.

The frozen bird treats came out easily from the silicone pans
when I turned them upside down.

HAND STAMPED JEWELRY

One of our readers requested information
on how to create hand stamped jewelry.

It's my pleasure to share with you!

Are you ready to create  beautiful, personalized jewelry?

I added a heart charm, vintage pearls from my grandmother's necklace, and a pink glass bugle bead to this pendant.  Copyright 2011 Marcia Norwood

I learned to create hand stamped jewelry
by watching online videos.
