National Day of Prayer:
Thursday, May 1, 2014
It was an honor to organize local activities for the National Day of Prayer in Independence, Missouri, in the 90's. I contacted the Harry S. Truman Presidential Museum in Independence, and requested copies of documents (for the NDP task force resources) that were signed by President Truman in 1952, creating the first National Day of Prayer.
Please join us in prayer on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
"Engage in prayer for our nation, equip and encourage yourself and others
to take the challenge to Pray for America, and encounter the power of
God through prayer!"

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first
Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation.
It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States
Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
The NDP Task
Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage
participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate
with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to
create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to
intercede for America’s leaders and its families.
The Task Force
represents a Judeo Christian expression of the national observance,
based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and
in reverence for the God of the Bible.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
The National Day of Prayer was
established by an act of Congress in 1952 and it has become a
significant activity in the lives of millions of citizens, not only in
America, but on military bases and at embassies around the world. Each
year the President and all 50 Governors sign proclamations declaring the
First Thursday in May as a day of prayer for our nation. With the help
of more than 30,000 volunteers, tens of thousands of events are
organized and held every year. Although the Day of Prayer is a globally
observed solemn assembly, the NDP Task Force unites communities
throughout the year through regional training events, community prayer
rallies, and special gatherings like The Summons in Washington D.C.
