SEED PACKET ART

Original (95 year old) antique seed packets were discovered a few years back when the William D. Burt Seed Company building in Dalton, New York was torn down.

The bulldozer that was clearing away the debris accidentally uncovered a buried trap door that led to a forgotten cellar. In the cellar were boxes covered with wax and filled with the never used seed packets

Thus sealed from air, moisture and light, the packets retained the vivid and pristine colors of the flowers and vegetables.  The packets were stored and forgotten in about 1917.

These  antique seed packets
were exquisitely hand lithographed by
artists 95 years ago.

Not only are the packets valuable
 as art, but historically they depict many varieties and colors of  flowers and vegetables that are considered extinct today, and may only be seen as images in these packets.

Here are my creations for new seed packet and garden art designs.

They would also make beautiful images for cards, posters, stationery, T-shirts, pillow and woven-throw blanket designs.

"Flowers have an expression of countenance
as much as men and animals.
Some seem to smile;
some have a sad expression;
some are pensive and diffident;
others again are plain, honest and upright,
like the broad-faced sunflower
and the hollyhock."

Henry Ward Beecher

"A fairy seed I planted,
so dry and white and old,
there sprang a vine enchanted,
with magic flowers of gold."

Marjorie Barrows

"I perhaps owe
having become a painter
to flowers."

Claude Monet

"Adopt the pace of nature:
her secret is patience."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Just living is not enough,"
said the butterfly,
"one must have
sunshine,
freedom
and
a little flower."

Hans Christian Anderson

The fruit

of the Spirit is

love,

joy,

peace,

patience,

gentleness,

goodness,

faith,

meekness,

and

self-control.

Galatians 5:22
The Holy Bible, KJV
