MEET THE MOSS FAMILY

We've had  beautiful, windy days in the heart of America:  perfect weather for walks through Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden.

I found spots of color peeking through the browns and golden wheat colored landscape.

Here are the first blooms of the season along the Living Wall, a unique garden.  It is the largest "living wall" in the United States.

Blue hues from the glass bottle are brilliant against the shades of blue in the sky in the Heartland Harvest Garden.

The Heartland Harvest Garden

Welcome to America’s largest edible landscape—where every tree, shrub, flower and groundcover is part of the story of where our food comes from.

Here in the Heartland of America, this signature garden captures the spirit of Kansas City’s place where our rich soils and prime farmland make agriculture a shining star.

...my daughter. Faith, discovered a bird nest entwined between  branches of a bush.

Do you see it?

These are the first jonquil/daffodil blooms I've seen this spring!

A feast for the eyes awaited us inside, in the glass-domed Conservatory.

The exhibits in the  Conservatory at Powell Gardens change six times a year.  Each August this space turn into a magical butterfly house, but now - (through May 11) - you have an opportunity to see a fictional family's whimsical home.

Let me introduce you to the Moss family.  Their home is a creative exhibit where ordinary household items are turned into living works of art.

Pete and Kate Moss's family home is literally alive with color and texture, including gorgeous orchids.

Walk with me along a flamingo-lined corridor to this amazing exhibit.  (Who knew you could make such adorable flamingos with gourds, paint, feathers and bamboo?!)

Here's a preview of more Moss family and home photos that will appear in upcoming blogs.

What an inspiration to create our own living art for our porches, sunrooms and gardens!

Dare I dream to have a conservatory someday?

Go outside!

Gather nature's bounty to create beautiful decorations for your home.

Look for rocks,
          feathers,
                  twigs
                        leaves,
                            flowers
                                            and branches.

I cut branches from the honeysuckle vine in my yard, to create an arrangement to hang outside our front windows.  I wired the vines together in the center, and added a large bow, ribbons, and a bell windchime.

 It's so festive!

And it was free since I had everything I needed at home to make it.
