When we're driving
from the Kansas City, Missouri, area to Pella -
we drive
1.  NORTH on I-35
2.  Then go EAST on 92
and either take the last exist to Knoxville
and follow T-15 east/north across the Red Rock Dam into Pella.

The T-15 road is close over the dam,
so an alternate route is 92 Highway to T-17.
T-17 isn't shown on these maps.
T-17 crosses the Des Moines River just east of T-17,
and goes right into Pella.
Watch out for the T17 turn off of 91.  It's hard to find.

Help!
I wish someone local to Pella
would put up a BIG sign
at the intersection of 92 Highway and T-17
that points to downtown Pella.

This November we drove four hours to Eldon, Iowa,
(about 15 minutes southeast of Ottumwa, Iowa)
for a Christmas photo shoot
at the American Gothic House.

Please check out my previous blog about
the American Gothic House.

We couldn't resist driving another 45 minutes
north to our beloved Pella.

Pella's Vermeer Windmill is
the tallest working windmill in the United States.
It grinds wheat into (stone-ground) whole wheat flour
using only wind power.

The flour is available for purchased in the gift shop.

My daughters and I enjoy walking around the
streets of Pella, and shopping in their specialty stores.

 I found beauty
in the barren trees and bare dirt.

Thousands of tulip bulbs purchased from Holland
are sleeping in Pella's flower beds just beneath the surface...
except for the bulbs a squirrel stole.

No wonder the Dutch paint their buildings
with brilliant colors!

Pella's Dutch architecture is magnificent!

It's no surprise my photo of the Vermeer Windmill at night
is featured in one of our Christmas collages.

It's a shame
that there is only one pet-friendly hotel in Pella.

Pella has more than one windmill.

My daughters, Faith and Sarah,
and  Tilly and Pearl (two of our four puppies)
posed at the windmill near the sunken gardens,
where the pond is in the shape of a wooden shoe.

 Never
have I taken a photo
of a public bathroom...
until now.

I had to do it.

The bathroom for "dames"
at the Windmill Museum is SO clean,
and it just happens to have blue and white delft tiles.
