 "Adam's Army started

 Sometimes you meet a family
who actually enjoys each others company.

Sometimes you meet a family
who reaches out through their own pain,
to help others who are hurting.

Meet my friend, Mary Reed,
and her beautiful family.

The Reed Family, and a group of their friends
who came along side to help
are changing the world
one blood donation at a time.

Listen to the story in Mary's own words.

Mary Reed:

Adam was the oldest of our five children.

He was a lively, wonderful boy, and we miss him every day.

He was a typical, healthy kid until he was diagnosed with leukemia just before his 13th birthday, in 2003.

It was a HUGE shock.

He spent over two years in treatment.

He underwent chemo, radiation, and two bone marrow transplants.

Throughout the whole process, blood transfusions were important in helping keep his strength up so that he could fight the leukemia.

The type of leukemia he had is rare, and very difficult to beat.  He reached remission a couple times, but the disease always came back.

Eventually, his body could not take any more punishment.

He died of a liver complication caused by the intense chemo that's part of the transplant process.

He died shortly after his 15th birthday, on May 23, 2005.

Adam's Army started as a group of family and church friends who were our support system.

Most importantly, they were our prayer warriors, although they did all kinds of other things to help us.

When Adam died, it was our daughter Jenna's suggestion that we honor his memory with a blood drive, since blood donations had been so important in his fight.  It was a natural extension of the original Adam's Army.

Over
the
years,
the
blood
drive
has
become
a family project.

We believe
in the
importance
of
blood donations.

If Adam's story
can help to save other lives,
                       then it's worth sharing it.

This year (2014) is
the 9th Annual
Adam's Army Blood Drive.
It has become one of the largest community-based drives
in the state of Missouri.

We'd love to see his year
set a new record for donations.

Please feel free
to share the drive information
with anyone you think
may be interested.

And, of course,
you are welcome
to attend the drive
and become a donor.

 Blood Donors must be:
  • at least 16 years old
  • weigh 115 pounds
  • and have a valid ID.

This year our youngest, Dalton, will be old enough to donate for the first time.

Thanks for helping us get the word out.

If you have questions or need more info, feel free to contact me.

 Jeff & Mary,
you and your family and friends
exemplify the people of faith
in  2 Corinthinans 1:3-5.

2 Corinthians

Chapter 1: Verses 3 - 5

THE RESCUE

All praise
to the God and Father of our Master,
Jesus the Messiah!

Father of all mercy!

God of all healing counsel!

He comes alongside us
when we go through hard times,
and before you know it,
He bring us alongside someone else
who is going through hard times
so that we can be there for that person
just as God was there for us.

We have plenty of hard times
that come from following the Messiah
but no more so
than the good times
of his healing comfort
we get a full measure of that, too.

The Message Bible

My own family owes Mary & Jeff,
and their family and friends,
a personal debt of gratitude.

My granddaughter, Megan Jewell,
was born with a supposed-fatal form of anemia
that requires life-saving transfusions.

and had a complete blood exchange
before she was one day old.

Megan had life-saving blood transfusions
every month of her life for 12 years.

After many prayers and several surgeries
to remove multiple spleens, and her gall bladder...
Megan's need for monthly transfusions has diminished.

Megan wrote a story about her life.   It was published in the September 2010 edition of Focus on the Family's CLUBHOUSE Magazine.

http://www.hacwn.org/HACWN/Welcome.html. Megan's article was published in the September 2010 edition of CLUBHOUSE Magazine. "Just do it afraid." Megan Jewell Norwood. It's true. Megan almost died the day she was ...

It has been nine months since Megan's last transfusion.

One day there will be no need for transfusions,
but until then God uses people people who donate blood
to save lives on this side of eternity.
