B L O O M

Noun
1.  a period of flowering
2.  a state or time of beauty, freshness, and vigor
3.  a state or time of high development or achievement

Verb
1.  to mature into achievement of one's potential
2.  to flourish in youthful beauty, freshness, or excellence
3.  to shine out:  glow

Are you blooming,
                  flowering,
maturing in achievement of your potential,
                              flourishing in beauty and excellence...
                                              glowing?

Mary Engelbreit made the phrase, "Bloom Where You Are Planted"  popular in our culture, but the Bishop of Geneva, Saint Francis de Sales is actually credited with the quote.

"Bloom where you are planted."

The Bishop of Geneva, Saint Francis de Sales (1567-1622)

Design by Mary Engelbreit

I've known plants and people who never bloom where they are planted.  Forget about blooming - sometimes they don't even survive.    Plants and trees tell us rather quickly if they have any intention of blooming - whether it's from poor soil or lack of sun.    Move a plant from a soggy, shady location to a sunny area, and it begins to thrive.

It really is all about location, location, location!

SO how are we to bloom where we are planted?

What is essential for our health and happiness?

Can we ever truly bloom?

I believe when we find God's path for our life, we discover who we are meant to be.  He will guide us and give us strength to make changes to move to a sunnier place.

Here's a song for our journey...

 BLOOM

by The Paper Kites

In the morning when I wake
And the sun is coming through,
Oh, you fill my lungs with sweetness,
And you fill my head with you.

Shall I write it in a letter?
Shall I try to get it down?
Oh, you fill my head with pieces
Of a song I can't get out.

Can I be close to you?
Ooh-oo-oo-ooh, ooh .
Can I be close to you?
Ooh, ooh.

Can I take it to a morning
Where the fields are painted gold
And the trees are filled with memories
Of the feelings never told?

When the evening pulls the sun down,
And the day is almost through,
Oh, the whole world it is sleeping,
But my world is you.

Can I be close to you?
(Ah) ooh (aah), ooh (aah).
Can I be close to you?
(Ah) ooh (aah), ooh (aah).

*whistling*

Can I be close to you?
(Ah) ooh (aah), ooh (aah).
Can I be close to you?
(Ah) ooh (aah), ooh (aah).

Can I be close to you?
Ooh, ooh.

STORYTELLER GREETING CARDS

Marcia Norwood
America's STORYTELLER

Telling Untold Stories in Photographs, Prose and Public Speaking

I am a fan of Mary Engelbreit.

 Something About Mary
from:
http://www.maryengelbreit.com/

Today, thousands of retailers sell Mary Engelbreit products to her countless fans, and Mary Engelbreit Studios continues to add new licensees and product categories. Nearly 30 years after that first trip to New York, Mary fulfilled her dream of illustrating children's books, and is now one of a select few artists with three New York Times children's best sellers. Though many people tried to discourage her through the years, "I believed in myself," she says, "and now I'm living my dream."

Mary and her family live in St. Louis, Missouri.

Once Mary focused her talent on greeting cards, success came quickly. As her card line grew in size and popularity, it drew attention from other companies anxious to license her artwork on a wide range of products including calendars, T-shirts, mugs, gift books, rubber stamps, ceramic figurines, fabric and a list that's grown to include nearly 6,500 products in all, with more than $1 billion in lifetime retail sales.

Mary was also editor-in-chief of the award-winning creative lifestyle magazine, Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion.

Mary-Engelbreit inspires me.

I am a Mary-Engelbreit-wanna-be.

Mary combines her drawings with quotations.   I do something similar with my photographs and quotes.   One day I hope to build my STORYTELLER brand of greeting cards -  to  license products for STORYTELLER gift books, calendars, fabrics, jewelry, mugs, posters, and T-shirts.

I designed STORYTELLER greeting cards by matching my  photographs with my favorite quotes and scriptures.  I had them printed them (at MPIX) on beautiful, textured, linen paper.  The cards are 5 inches by 7 inches and suitable for framing.

STORYTELLER Greeting Cards
are different and unique.

STORYTELLER greeting cards feature my photographs on the front, back and a unique, softer, faint image of a photo on the inside of the card.

The newest cards have a place on the back of the greeting card to write notes

My idea to add a space for notes was born from my desire to hand-write notes/mini-letters on the cards I send.  I also fondly remember  my grandmother's, aunt's, and great-aunt's handwritten messages on cards they sent me throughout the years.  Sometimes I had to turn their cards upside down and sideways to read their personal messages.

It just made sense to me to add a place on greeting cards for handwritten notes.  I shared my greeting card designs and my idea for NOTES in a personal meeting with a female representative from DaySpring cards at a HACWN (Heart of America Christian Writers' Network) conference a few years ago, and gave her copies of my greeting cards.  She was not interested in someone like me with out-of-the-shoe-box ideas.

In 1999, DaySpring was acquired by Hallmark. DaySpring offers more than 7,000 products each year and touches more than 850 million people in a year.

Here are photos of some of my designs...
