Speaking of Disney Fairies...

Disney has announced a new movie called

 “The Pirate Fairy.”  

Christina Hendricks will voice the character, Zarina,

 in the movie while Tom Hiddleston 

will voice the character James (Captain Hook).

Here’s a description of the movie:

When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. 

However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow. 

With comedy, heart and epic thrills for the whole family, ‘The Pirate Fairy’ sets sail Spring 2014.

   A  fairy  

 is one 

of a class of supernatural beings, 

generally conceived 

as having a diminutive human form,

that possess magical powers 

with which they intervene in human affairs. 

 

The word, "fairy"  derived from 

Middle English word faierie 

 (also fayerye, feirie, fairie), 

is a direct borrowing from Old French Faerie... 

meaning the land or realm 

of the legendary people of folklore and romance 

called (in Old French) faie or fee.  

Faie became Modern English fay... "a fairy."

Two children (a little girl and boy about five years old) visited  Heartland Nursery the same day I was there.  They were enchanted with the Fairy Gardens, and carefully examined each and every inch of the diminutive garden.

"I could live in a garden like this!" 

the boy said as soft as a wish or a prayer.

"Me, too," 

said the girl.

Their eyes sparkled.

I couldn't resist engaging them, and asked:  

"Do you think if you had a garden like this 

the fairies would come?"

"I think so.  I'm pretty sure,"

said the girl with a smile.

The boy nodded his head in agreement.

"I think so, too," I said.

Heartland Nursery is the dream fulfilled by Pete & Sherry Mistretta. After 29 years as Blue Ridge Gardens; a small 200' x 200' garden center with 19 parking spaces...the dream garden center was built. 80,000 square feet under a glass greenhouse. The greenhouse was manufactured in Belgium, and shipped over by boat, once here a Belgium crew flew in and began putting it up. With over 120 parking spots, lots of carts and wide asles and plants from every corner of the globe it is a gardener's paradise.

Wheelbarrows, wagons, wooden boxes, tin buckets, and wide terracotta pots are excellent for creating miniature garden designs that any fairy would be delighted to inhabit.




Do you believe in fairies?

Two children in 1917, took a photograph, believed by some to be the first scientific evidence of the existence of fairies. The movie, FairyTale:  A True Story (1997) is based on a factual accounts  of two young girls that, somehow, had the ability to take pictures of winged beings.  It caused quite a stir throughout England during the time of the first World War.  Everyone, except the girls who think it's quite normal, were excited about this "photographic proof" that fairies exist... even the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini pay the girls a visit.
