FOR THE BIRDS
DIY (Do It Yourself) PROJECT

We're in the midst of a blizzard
here in the heart of America.
Snow continued to fall throughout the day.
The weather reports predict
eight to ten inches of snowfall by this evening.
My DIY (Do It Yourself) project
did NOT turn out exactly as expected...
but the birds don't seem to mind.

First...before the snow fell,
I filled the bird feeders in our yard
with cranberries and bird seed.

Here's a special project for the birds!

This looked like an easy project:

 Directions:
  1. Drop the birdseed, orange peel, dried fruit and greenery into the empty balloon. (Use a funnel if necessary.)
  2. Fill the balloon with water, and tie a knot at the top.
  3. Place in the freezer, turning the balloon every 20 minutes until frozen.
  4. Remove from freezer, and peel off balloon.
  5. Set outside in cold weather for the birds.

Instruction # 1...easy peasy.
Drop the birdseed, orange peel, dried fruit and
greenery into the empty balloon.

 (Use a funnel if necessary.)

#2 - Fill the balloon with water, and tie a knot at the top.
This is where it all went wrong.
I filled the balloon with water,
but it didn't get any bigger -
SO -I blew in the balloon....
which caused everything inside to overflow...
inside my mouth.
Icky!

I gave up following the instructions after two more tries
resulted in  two more mouthfuls of birdseed and greenery.
I must admit that I was NOT looking forward to
Instruction #3:
Place in the freezer,
turning the balloon every 20 minutes until frozen.
What's a girl to do?

My silicone muffin pans came to the rescue!

I filled the muffin pans with birdseed, cranberries and greenery,
(we didn't have any oranges), and left some greenery
(Boxwood & Arborvitae) sticking out,
and finally poured in the water.

Then:  the muffin pans went in the freezer.

The frozen bird treats came out easily from the silicone pans
when I turned them upside down.
