Here's what I've learned after starting and running two jewelry businesses:
- I love to make jewelry.
- I love to wear jewelry.
- I love to give jewelry to others.
- I love to teach others how to make jewelry.
- I don't like to sell jewelry.
- I don't like the "business" of taxes and inventory.

First: Plan to spend more than you ever imagined, and more than you will admit to your husband and family.
It seems like you will save money by making your own jewelry.
You probably won't...at least I haven't.
I've spent approximately $7,000 in the past two years on jewelry supplies, displays, packaging, and fees to be in art fairs and special shows.
I've made only $--- well, let's just say my earnings have yet to surpass my expenditures.
You don't have to spend that much. I never intended to. I have enough completed jewelry, beads and jewelry supplies to last for many years to come.
I have been blessed to be able to sell a little bit, and give a lot of jewelry as gifts to individuals, and ministries.

Second: Storage for tools and supplies is VERY important. I prefer to store supplies and completed jewelry in clear, plastic bins, so I can see what is inside. I have small, medium and large bins.
Jewelry tools: Available online and at hobby and craft stores. |

Presentation is important.
I love paper.
I love all things paper: the tags, the boxes, the TAGS, the business cards, the TAGS.
I love paper.
I create my personal tags, signs and displays in Microsoft Publisher, and print them on my Kodak EasyShare 5300 printer.
Jewelry Shows/Art Shows are a LOT of work.
I'm a bit of an over-achiever.
People who attended my shows thought I had a store because of the amount of inventory in my booth.

Beveled Glass Tile Necklaces are easy to make.
I import photos/images into Microsoft Publisher, and reduce them to fit the size of glass tiles that I use...then print them on my Kodak EasyShare 5300 printer.
I cut out the images first - before gluing them to the BACK of the glass tiles. with Diamond Glaze.

Remember: Cut out the images first - and then GLUE them to the BACK (under-side) of the glass tiles with Diamond Glaze. Let dry overnight or 24 hours.
Sometimes I add a paper to the back of the photo after the first layer of Diamond Glaze has dried.
Then I add another layer of Diamond Glaze and let it dry overnight, or for another 24 hours.
Glue a bail on the back of the glass tile, after all layers have dried completely.
Add beveled glass pendant to a necklace!
Add charms with a jump ring, if desired.
This is a photo of the FRONT of the glass tiles, after the glaze has dried. These glass tiles are waiting to have the bails glued to the backs.

Panda Hall
www.pandahall.com
Panda Hall is a great resource. It takes from two weeks to a month to get your order...except during Chinese New Year, and then it takes much longer. You can purchase items with Paypal.
Panda Hall is where I purchase bulk items: beads, necklaces, charms, organza bags, jewelry boxes, and some jewelry tools. I always buy lead-free metal items. They have a LARGE inventory, and you can spend hours and days searching for items. Prices are very reasonable, but remember to count the cost of shipping. Sometimes the shipping is more than the price of the items you order.
