What is a tree-hugger?
Tree-huggers, or environmentalists, encourage environmental consciousness in various areas: protecting forests, climate change, wildlife, natural resources and toxic chemicals.
My Preschool and Kindergarten students were enthusiastic about going green.

Tree-Hugger
Origin
"Tree hugger" is a term that refers to the Uttar Pradesh people in India, (mainly women) who were involved in the Chipko movement.
Chipko "comes from a word meaning "embrace." The villagers hug the trees, saving them by putting their bodies between them and the contractors' axes.
The women of the region, usually confined to household work, took the lead because they were the worst hit by the decline of the forests. Collecting fuel and fodder for their needs became more difficult, adding to their suffering. Their movement became a catalyst of inspiration for people around the world to protect woodlands.
